Entitled “Vade-mecum” and named after Norwid’s largest poetry collection, the short film, around 11 minutes long, premiered on Facebook last night (April 12, 2021).
The Quay Brothers have been working on their third feature film for several years, inspired by Bruno Schulz’s novel ‘Sanatorium Under the Sign of the Hourglass’.
Recently they've shared with us exclusive preview clips of the upcoming film, which were previously displayed only as a part of 'Dream Pools & Collecting Holes’ exhibition at TENT. IFFR earlier this year.

If you're a fan of David Lynch (particularly Eraserhead) and you have Shudder or the Criterion Channel I definitely recommend checking out the short films of the Quay Brothers. So far Street of Crocodiles is my favorite.
Insects is a surreal comedy film directed by Jan Švankmajer, the film is based on the play Pictures from the Insects' Life by Karel and Josef Čapek. Švankmajer says that the film will be his last. It premiered on 26 January 2018 at International Film Festival Rotterdam.
"Manny" is a brilliant Stop Motion Animation Created By Adam Rosenberg. It pays some pretty obvious tributes to David Firth's "Crooked Rot", but has a totally different message.
Comment by David Firth: A return to the stop-motion here with Crooked (Orcus) Rot. This started off as an experiment to see if stop-frame would be any better using an SLR camera. The result would certainly suggest so visually, but it was a hell of a lot harder. This project really began when I discovered a treasure cave of strange items in my own back yard including mannequin heads and rubber hands. It inspired me so much that every time I returned I gathered more inspiration. Originally I focused on capturing light which is why the SLR was so important, but eventually it almost became a sequel to Hell with all the blood flying about . Composer Marcus Fjellström who donated some of his music for Men From Up The Stairs became interested in the project when I posted a few screen shots on Newgrounds and went on to compose the entire musical score. This is interesting because it's the first time that I have made a video first and then sent it to someone else to do the music.
The plot follows Jakob (Mark Rylance), a young man who enters a school, run by brother and sister Herr (Gottfried John) and Lisa Benjamenta (Alice Krige), which trains servants. The teachers emphasize to the students that they are unimportant people. Jakob finds the school to be an oppressive environment, and does not enjoy the lessons in subservience that he receives. He proceeds to challenge the Benjamentas and attempts to shift their perspectives. Lisa is attracted to Jakob and spends time with him, and shows him the secret labyrinth below the school. Lisa soon dies and after her death the institute closes. Herr Benjamenta and Jakob then leave together.
When Jakob (Mark Rylance) attends the Institute Benjamenta to learn the ways of servitude, his dream quickly takes on nightmarish qualities. Lisa (Alice Krige), one of the headmasters, is an intriguing beauty whom Jakob feels attracted to, but she seems emotionally unstable. Meanwhile, Lisa's brother (Gottfried John) is entirely distracted from the school's operations, and no new students ever arrive. The work is tedious, and the situation worsens when Lisa falls into a catatonic state.
Adam Pesapane, known by the pseudonym PES, is an Oscar and Emmy-nominated American director and stop-motion animator of numerous short films and commercials. In 2013, his short film Fresh Guacamole was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. It is the shortest film ever nominated for an Oscar.
